Maurizio Ognibene:
I am often asked why as a biologist I am an intelligence analyst for security: simply because natural systems have already developed all the answers to security problems and here are 4 lessons from nature π¦ for your physical π‘ security in unsafe β places:
π Cryptism: wear clothes that do not differ in type and colors from those of others, the same goes for shoes, headgear, shoulder covers, bags or hand luggage, accessories.
π· Aposematism: do what you can to maintain the casual attitude of being at ease, not fearful, sure of yourself and of what you are doing, where you are going. Keep the same cadence in the pace as the others, do not make jerks or sudden movements. This means that you will have to prepare in advance with all the information you will need to travel.
π Mullerian mimicry: do everything possible not to seem isolated from others, do not seclude yourselves, do not distance yourself from the majority of those present even if they are not to your liking; Consequently, it will appear that you are endowed with the same defenses as them.
π¦ Batesian mimicry: be able to recognize the type of “Alpha” woman or man among those present, obtaining useful postural suggestions and body language.
π‘ Leverage security technology: Use security apps that allow you to share your location with trusted contacts and provide real-time updates on your location.
I suggest the “My Safety Circle” application that you can find on the Android and iOS app storesΒ https://www.mysafetycircle.comΒ Β Β I am part of the team of intelligence, security and IT specialists who designed it and who are continuously enhancing it with new features.
Alexey Dubrovin:
As humans we developed yet another strategy – Awareness – observe, comprehend and anticipate what is going on around you and what is going to happen – to avoid confrontation and do not even be there at the unfortunate moment.
Unfortunately many technological inventions (airpods, addictive smartphone apps) trend to deprive us the human beings of this strategy (not voluntarily I believe, but still)
But we at MySafetyCircle aim to equip people with a tool which
– a) facilitates growing the awareness
– b) brings in more information – the techno way which helps to stay relaxed when you really can do so and be alert when you need to.
